IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE
TO THANE INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS
Dear Customer:
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Thane International, Inc. is recalling the Perfect Air Ultra™ air purifier (sold between February 2004 and December 2004). These air purifiers were sold throughout the United States through direct sales channels, including television infomercials. They were also sold on Thane’s website, www.thane.com.
THIS RECALL IS FOR SAFETY REASONS!
Specifically, it appears that under some circumstances, an overheating capacitor in the unit can cause arcing in a connecting wire which could result in the risk of fire. This fire risk could result in injury or property damage. Thane has not received any reports of injuries, but has received six reports of incidents involving the unit and/or its components catching on fire or melting. Thane has also received approximately six units which were returned by customers and show some evidence of melting and/or charring.
The Perfect Air Ultra™ is an air filtration device which attacks indoor air pollution. It measures approximately 12 inches high, 15 inches wide and 6 inches deep and weighs approximately 3.2 pounds. The outer casing is composed of white plastic and from the front, the plastic is molded into a flat shape with four rows of rounded edges with a series of horizontal vents along the length of each row.
Our records indicate that you purchased this product and therefore are subject to this recall. You should discontinue use of the air purifier immediately and contact Thane’s Perfect Air Ultra Customer Service toll free at 1-800-895-0986 24 hours a day for instructions on returning the unit to Thane to receive a coupon for credit towards other Thane products equal to 150% of your calculated refund amount. Please have your order number ready before you call. You can find your customer order number at the top left of this letter.
